Capstone Project: Proposal Objectives, Strategies, and Background Analysis
Hi let’s start with this one to take it out of the way; ones this one is finish we can start with the 2 others next week.
BSN-355
Capstone Project Proposal Objectives, Strategies, and Background Analysis
For this assignment you will need to:
Write a 3-4 page paper in APA format with a minimum of 3 references.
Address the following Areas:
Project Objectives
The objectives are something you hope to achieve from doing the project
Strategies
Strategies are the method you will use to reach the objectives you have set for your project
Background Analysis
This may also be called a situation analysis. This section you will need to discuss what is happening that made you decided to do your capstone project.
For example, the nurses at a facility are making a many medication errors. For your capstone project you decide you will try to reduce the number of medication errors from 10 every week to three a week. You will have to analyze why the errors are taking place. Maybe the lighting in the medication room is poor or maybe the nurses are working 70 hours every week.
You will also need to locate peer review articles that support you analysis.

Objectives, Strategies, and Background
Technology has been a tremendous revolutionary item in the 21st century, and COVID-19 highlighted its importance in the healthcare sector through strategies such as telemedicine. In this context, medical prescription adherence is one of the most pervasive problems within the health sector. According to Gast and Mathes (2019), medical adherence can be defined as the degree to which an individual's behavior corresponds with a healthcare provider's agreed-upon recommendations. The elderly are the most affected, and this leads to other medical complications as well as the potential loss of life. This capstone project intends to address the issue of medication adherence and its related detrimental health implications. PICOT question guiding this capstone project is as follows: In older adults with chronic health conditions, does the implementation of a technology-assisted medication adherence intervention, compared to standard medication management alone, improve medication adherence over at least nine months?
Objectives
Objectives tend to act as scaffolds for ongoing performance, improving the capstone project. Ideally, objectives are tailored to provide a roadmap for a project to completion by ensuring it stays on track. The meaning of SMART objectives lies in the acronym, meaning that they need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Result Oriented, and Time-Bound (CDC, 2023). The capstone project's specific objective is to increase medication adherence among elderly patients by 65% within the first nine months of implementing technology-assisted interventions. The achievable objective is anchored on implementing technology-assisted interventions, such as reminder applications and pill dispensers. These technology-assisted interventions will have to be user-friendly to the elderly, which means software such as a reminder application should have large font sizes for easy readability. The time-bound objective is to implement the technology-assisted interventions in 3 months and then monitor the performance for six months, as technology is prone to failure.
Strategies
With respect to the first objective of increasing medication adherence in older adults with chronic health conditions by 65% in the first nine months of implementing the technology, the first strategy is to train the elderly on the use of technology. Technological advancements have been experienced worldwide and are beneficial in various ways, such as increased connectivity. However, there is an age-related gap between the technology users. The younger generation is more familiar with technology than the older ones. Research conducted by Harris et al. (2022) found that the age gap can be attributed to the ignorance of the elderly. Training them to use the technological interventions will make it easier for them to appreciate the technology and start engaging with them. The next strategy is providing education regarding the importance of medication adherence. When patients clearly understand their condition and the need for a successful treatment plan, it will be easier for them to take the medication as required.
The other objective is to implement feasible technologies for elderly patients. The first strategy is to ensure that the technology implemented is user-friendly and customized to their use. The elderly often face problems such as visual impairment due to decreased visual acuity and cataracts. This means that if they are to use a specific technology, the user interface should be friendly to help them navigate through. A user-friendly interface also improves the engagement of the elderly with the technology, and by extension, this will help meet the required objective (Chau & Osborne, 2017). The next strategy is to consult with healthcare providers to understand the technologies that have been in use and their effectiveness. Consulting with healthcare providers will also help me understand safe technologies for the elderly.
The third objective is to implement the technology-assisted interventions in 3 months and then monitor the performance for six months, as technology is prone to failure. In this respect, the first strategy is to have a project implementation and assessment timeline. A timeline will help in good time management, and research indicates that good time management, as used in project planning, increases effectiveness and productivity (Oburu, 2020). A timeline should also be created before implementation to act as a guide to the activities. The next strategy under this objective is data collection, enabling me to understand whether the technologies work as required.
