Mechanism of Action Accrufer delivers iron across the intestinal wall for uptake and conversion to ferritin and transferrin (Cunha, 2022). Drug Administration and Dosage The recommended dosage is 30mg, taken twice daily. Patients should avoid chewing Accruffer but swallow it on an empty stomach one hour before meals or two hours after eating. Regular monitoring of serum transferrin and ferritin helps prevent iron overload. Drug Interactions Taking some drugs alongside Accrufer can decrease iron bioavailability from the capsules. Alternatively, using Accrufer alongside Dimercaprol could cause nephrotoxicity.
