Cultural disparities may cause language barriers and communication between the patient and health provider, causing patient dissatisfaction with treatment. Lack of cultural competence is also a factor of concern since African Americans are said to report being despised due to their race and ethnic background and receive poorer treatment due to their race. To embrace culturally competent healthcare in which the professionals and organizations understand and utilize these factors in providing services to patients, giving training sessions about specific groups of people and cross-cultural skills to approach patients is critical (Health Policy Institute, 2018). Although there are many barriers to providing care sensitive to a person's culture, nurses must develop knowledge, skills, and awareness through their training to provide quality care (Young & Guo, 2020).
