In his insightful study, Shenton (2004) states that there are four criteria that are set out by Guba in order to ascertain the quality and reliability of qualitative research, and these four criteria are considered to be credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability.
To make my qualitative research credible, which is also similar to ensuring internal validity in other research, I use triangulation, which means that I gather information from different sources or use various methods to confirm my findings, which also aligns with what Ravitch and Carl’s (2020) emphasis on cross-referencing. As an example, information acquired in one-on-one discussions can be confirmed through discussion with a group.
