Thematic Planning for Early Childhood

Although early childhood education encompasses grades birth through third, planning for infants and toddlers differs from that of preschool through third grade drastically. These young students learn in different ways and require different types of learning experiences and materials to support their learning and development. When technology tools are used with infants and toddlers, passive screen time should be avoided and should include interaction and conversation with an adult. Imagine that you are working at an infant toddler center, and you are responsible for planning for one of the classrooms, either infant (12-24 months) or toddler (24-36 months). Using the “Early Childhood Weekly Plan” select a theme and create a weekly plan that supports development/learning of at least one developmental milestone or infant/toddler standard/guideline appropriate for the age group. Create aligned learning objectives and complete the following for the week: At least one instructional activity that includes music and gross motor skills At least one instructional activity that includes art and fine motor skills One center for each of the following: imaginative play, literacy, math, science, and social studies At least one developmentally appropriate technology resource that can be used to enhance your instructional activities or centers Support this assignment with 2-3 resources.
