Understanding the importance of the teacher’s role in educational reform and the improvement of the child’s welfare is important for any educator. It allows him to have a better understanding of how he can plan and implement changes in his practice to start a cycle of change that starts within the classroom itself. Accordingly, this article would focus on how the problems of a monolithic education could be addressed with the teacher’s act of ‘activism’ within the classroom setting. However, contrary to the common belief that activism should always be radical and violent, I believe that this change could be done with the simple method of raising awareness about the societal issues that society faces as early as possible.
Analysis of the Reading
The main idea that Gonzalez (2015) discussed in her article was the fact that the educational system has become increasingly threatened with the demands for a higher tendency towards achieving high grades for the children to become productive members of the ‘corporate’ world. Upon reading her discussion about this, I realized that most people that I know (even some students) believe that being able to fit in within the capitalist society and make more money is the raison d’etre of going to school in the first place. They believe that even though many have succeeded in life without having a prestigious degree pursuing education gives them the best chances to succeed.
