The materials that will be used include phonics flashcards, sight word cards, an interactive whiteboard, reading worksheets, and storybooks featuring sight words. Incorporating various instructional materials is crucial when teaching this Grade 1 phonics lesson. Firstly, phonics flashcards are essential as they introduce and help them to learn the phonemes and graphemes, which are essential to teaching sound blending and segmentation of words (Senzaki et al., 2017). Next, using pre-made sight word cards for the words "the," "can," and "and" will help in the speedy recognition of the concerned words as well, and the shots will help in the speed reading of these words. Furthermore, an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) will be incorporated, whereby the child will be encouraged to play phonics games on the screen, and there will be use of data projectors in playing phonics games to appeal to the auditory and the visual learner respectively (Beauchamp, 2004). Reading Worksheets will help the student with phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight word recognition through activities that include matching and creating words (The Reading Advice Hub, n.d.). Lastly, during transitional moments between curricular activities and centers, a series of reading books, known as storybooks featuring sight words, will be introduced to give students a proper contextual understanding of the sight words within narratives.

Using the IWB, the lesson may introduce interactive phonics games in which students can use letters and sounds on the screen with their movements, which guarantees the organization of kinesthetic activity. This interaction is essential for young learners as it enhances the development of tangible perceptions of fundamental phonics and reading practices.
Along with the IWB, our class will also engage in web-based content that includes some educational websites like Starfall, where students can play games concerning sound blending, segmenting, and recognition of sight words, and applications like Epic!, which gives users access to hundreds of children's books, most of which contain sight words and phonics exercises that a first-grader should be able to read. The mentioned platforms may involve simple acoustic exercises for sound identification or more elaborate blending and segmentation tasks crucial for forming phonemic awareness. Such resources are chosen based on their compatibility with specific educational standards and the ability to vary the learning speed and provide feedback and additional support, if necessary.
