Data-Wiseness per Gerald Bracey Student’s Name Institution Course # and Name Professor’s Name Submission Date Data-Wiseness per Gerald Bracey I am interested in pursuing a career as a Special Education Teacher and embracing the uniqueness of learners with exceptionalities. The idea of working in a collaborative setting or a co-taught agreement will require multiple principles from Bracey (2006). In this work setting, Principle 1 (do the arithmetic) and Principle 2 (show me the data) will be crucial. Referral of a learner for special education and frequent behavioral and academic reviews require data. Moreover, these learners are constantly reviewed for their eligibility for special education services using their data on psychological, academic, goals and objectives data. This is a testament to Principle 1 because the data reported about these learners should be unbiased and fact-based. Data on learners living with disabilities should not be manipulated specifically to influence an outcome or influence decision-makers. Principle 2 of Bracey’s 32 principles of data interpretation requires that the data must always be available. In the context of special education services, educators should show the whole picture instead of selecting specific parts of the statistics that support their desired decisions. Whenever presented data is questionable or has missing pieces of background information, educators must be bold enough to ask for the data source (Bracey, 2006). For instance, a learner who has been referred for special education services must present data from all aspects of their learning life.
