There are several strategies I will employ to communicate with families who speak a language that I do not. First, I will employ the use of visual instruments such as pictures. Visual aids can help pass across messages and help break language barriers. Further, visual aids can help break down complex concepts into simple ideas that one can easily decipher. Secondly, I will use translation apps. In the contemporary world, translation apps are a common phenomenon. These apps have become so excellent at translating that they can be depended upon to break language barriers. The apps include Google Translate. Thirdly, I will demonstrate the utmost respect for their culture. Respecting the culture of a family helps foster great communication and bridge the language barrier. In addition to these techniques, I may also use a professional translator to help me pass the message. However, despite the techniques used to establish communication, the most important aspect will be building great relationships with the families to ensure they are comfortable engaging with me.
The following will be required to design an inclusive curriculum for all of the families in the classroom community. First, it will be essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the diverse communication needs of the families. There will be a need to collect information regarding the languages spoken, their preferred languages as well as the potential language barriers.
