Taking care of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) places significant undue pressure on families. Thus, professionals such as educators can play a key role in minimizing the pressure that family members experience by adopting intentional practices. As an educator, one can support family members for children with ASD by creating a welcoming environment where family members are comfortable taking an active role in a child’s education by asking questions and sharing their concerns about their children. To this end, the educator should take a collaborative approach to the child’s learning process, making sure that parents are consistently updated about the learning progress of the children and providing resources such as support groups.
As an educator, I would want parents to know that I am committed to the well-being and success of their children. To this end, I would like the parent to know that I value their input and insights and believe in working collaboratively to support their child's development.
