Childhood obesity is not only a health crisis at the national level but also goes to the international level as it affects millions of people. The underlying factor in obesity is the intake of more calories than are required, which could be due to environmental, behavioral or genetic causes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). This lead to social health, physical and psychological effects to children in whichever environment they grow in. Childhood Obesity education programs are therefore crucial to the course in ensuring that the effects are brought to bare minimum both at the local and national levels.
Childhood Obesity education programs have had impact on quite a number of health policies applied in many areas of the children’s lives. Schools have better diets that approach the idea of health to the children in a more subtle manner (Pekruhn, 2009). Other than the kind of diet the schools adapt, there are implications on the number of times the children are exposed to physical activities. There are also national wide campaigns on the types of foods that children should avoid when at home and at school. Most of these campaigns are directed at the fast food restaurants and cafes that sell the children’s foods that are high on calories. There has also been a lot of emphasis on the number of research that is directed on the issue, making it an international affair.
At the heart of managing the epidemic are the policies, which spread from the federal agencies to local organizations and institutions. Health education is crucial to the campaigns and is pivotal to the continuity and success of the interventions at the local and international levels. All the schools at the middle and high school levels are advised to look into their feeding programs, such as lunchtime meals and breakfast. The schools are well-informed on how best to provide the students with nutritious meals. With this policy regulation, more students are also encouraged to join the federal meals programs. Despite the fact that these meals programs are much cheaper, most of the children do not enroll in the programs due to perceived low nutritional status.
