While working in a project, a colleague diverted money but then blamed me for the anomaly. Having convinced the other team members that I was responsible for lack of oversight, this created mistrust. However, even before investigations were completed the colleague finally admitted his guilt. The process of forgiveness did not go through the four stages as stated by Enright and his colleagues. I did get to understand that forgiveness is like lifting a burden of one’s shoulders, and I also viewed the situation in a new light given that my cousin was ashamed of his actions.
Finding meaning after the incident was necessary to improve relations, and this taught me not to get into conclusions after being wronged before hearing the other person’s side of the story. Co-worker relations are important to avert serious conflicts and at times violence among workers (Struthers, Dupuis, & Eaton, 2005). The process of forgiveness is typically suggested as a strategy to restore harmony in the workplace if there is interpersonal offense.
