This civic engagement narrative will highlight the current housing and environmental justice battles in Baltimore, emphasizing Mayor Brandon Scott's affordable housing agenda. The inclusionary housing laws passed in January 2024 present an improvement to the past and present housing inequalities, which the act seeks to address (City of Baltimore, 2024).
The Community of Baltimore
Baltimore has always been centrally known for poor economic status and racial segregation, and the city still faces the problem of housing disadvantages. Different communities experience problems, including the cost of rent, availability of cheap accommodation, and vulnerability to hazardous products affecting the environment. Nevertheless, the recent laws on inclusionary housing are meant to enhance the integration of mixed-income populations and redress the effects of exclusionary policies (World Atlas, 2024; City of Baltimore, 2024).
