Communication is an essential practice and approach to achieving a seamless flow of information. Effective communication is a process of exchanging ideas, concepts, thoughts, and knowledge, accompanied by the achievement of desired purpose or intention of the sender. While communication issues, several challenges have always emerged, leading to non-intended consequences such as misinterpretation of messages communicated. This paper explores a case of communication problems in the community.
Health education programs are often implemented in the community to improve societal wellbeing. For example, a doctor was sensitizing 200 community members about hypertension through a slide presentation, where the attendees were educated on lifestyle changes and behavioral practices that control blood pressure. However, the doctor, in many instances, uses medical jargon to relay health information. As a result, the listeners of his health talk failed to understand the disseminated information about various aspects of hypertension. This case is an example of a communication problem or barrier.
