It requires collaboration, respect, trust, and understanding to thrive (Eisenberg et al., 2019). With these elements, members can work together for the benefit of the organization and personal growth. This presentation analyzes professional communication based on a scenario where, the CEO of Imagine You, a non-profit organization, holds a meeting with three company volunteers to brainstorm ideas for the annual fundraiser campaign. Unfortunately, the meeting ends prematurely when members fail to agree. The first issue faced in the panel discussion presented in the scenario was poor communication between the team members. Team communication requires high listening skills and understanding (Eisenberg et al., 2019). It creates a healthy debate and enables members to reach a consensus. This was not the case in the scenario. Nan, one of the panelists, demonstrated ineffective communication skills by listening to his colleagues’ opinions and engaging them in a healthy discussion. Rather than brainstorming ideas, she became angry and walked out of the meeting scolding Jim that the fundraising ideas raised would not work. Team communication cannot be effective if members disregard other people’s contributions. The second issue was weak leadership. The CEO needed to assume a leadership role and chair the meeting. She needed to moderate the discussion and intervene when disagreement ensued. Before Nan walked out of the room, the CEO should have calmed her down and looked for a solution that would bring the members on board.
