The field of communication and media has experienced a number of changes over the years that have revolutionized how people view the field. Texts by Marshal McLuhan help in understanding the field through capturing that we live in a 'global village'. Although McLuhan did not get to see the introduction of the internet, the text was highly prophetic since, in today's world, there is an entire interconnection through the internet. The geographical distance has been totally bridged through the internet, allowing people from different parts of the world to interact. McLuhan did not mean that a 'global village' would be created over the whole world but meant that different countries would be interconnected (Acland, 2007). The media and communication field has greatly adapted to the global village concept since they have featured their news features and advanced their communication protocols to the internet standards. The great improvements seen by the communication and media stakeholders, such as their active utilization of social media and global broadcasting, have illustrated that we live in a 'global village'.
