Several digital platforms today can be used as digital foundations of marketing campaigns. One of these is social media. Today, many people/consumers are using social media channels such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Tik Tok, Twitter, and Snapchat. For instance, every consumer usually has approximately eight social media accounts. Secondly, every day, an average consumer (adult) spends two and a half hours on social media, which translates to two and a half hours business people should optimize to interact with and let consumers become aware of their products (Jacobson et al., 2020). There are several ways marketers and business people can achieve their marketing goals. One of these ways is distributing paid adverts and sponsored content. Another way is through promoting products at the front line with followers and consumers, creating a perfect ground for connection and open engagement, which gives rise to positive customer experiences.
As a marketing campaign foundation, social media has several strengths. First, it does not pose significant technical challenges in its usage, compared to other platforms such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) (Jacobson et al., 2020). Marketers and consumers just tap into their preferred pages without prior authorization or clearance. Another strength is that social media has low or no cost compared to other platforms. Setting up an individual profile or a marketing page on social media channels is free. Social media allows marketers to deliver effective customer service due to the open connection between them and their online customers (Jacobson et al., 2020).
