Essay Instructions:
In your lecture we talked a lot about relationships, whether they were social relationships, workplace relationships or romantic relationships. One of the interesting things about modern relationship that we didn’t talk about, however, is how they’re affected by modern technology, especially in the sense that, when you think about it, most of the communication research that went into the theories and models we’ve been discussing in your lectures was done before the internet even existed! You can talk about a social relationship, a friendship, a romantic relationship, a workplace relationship or even a family relationship; you can talk about how technology influences the theories of social exchange and equity; you can talk about how technology affects conflict, privacy, emotional and instrumental communication in romantic relationships: just make sure you’re discussing relationships and communication in the context of modern technology’s influence.
