Introduction
Cultures worldwide have varying characteristics and attributes which are associated with people that were born within them. Cultural patterns are defined as norms, beliefs, and values that shape a society with a significant role in shaping the foundation, thoughts, and traditions that make their identity. People born in western countries might consider the cultural practices in other countries like Indonesia, China, India, and other non-western countries strange and vice versa (Aliyyah et al., 2020). The paper discusses the cultural patterns in Indonesia’s education. Another objective of Merdaks is eliminating the gap between the education world and the real world. This new concept is beneficial to learning new things, positively impacting students, parents, and teachers (Abidah et al., 2020). It provides an opportunity to continue when they are ready; hence, learning is possible everywhere, i.e., in the room, boarding house gardens, as they desire to think from humans. Besides discussing the benefits of independent education, some disadvantages would also be catered to. The research examines the impact of COVID-19 on the Indonesian education system by utilizing the role of Merdeka Belajar’s philosophies. Both the primary and higher education system are evaluated within the Indonesian territories.
Indonesian Culture based on Merdeka Belajar
Like every culture, Indonesian culture is based on different customs and traditions, making it distinct and personalized to the people within that culture. The key characteristics are family and education, and performative arts to keep up the reputation and think optimistic about others. The philosophy of “Merdeka Belajar” is that learning is a lifelong process that should be pursued with independence and autonomy, which is highly valuable in Indonesia. This philosophy emphasizes the importance of self-motivation and self-discipline in learning and encourages people to take responsibility for their education. It also promotes the idea that learning should be enjoyable and tailored to individual learners’ needs and interests. Merdeka Belajar is also known for its focus on creativity and creativity in learning (Harun et al., 2020). This philosophy believes that learning should be based on new and innovative ideas and that students should be allowed to explore their creativity without constraint.
Merdeka Belajar is committed to providing equal opportunities for all learners, regardless of gender, race, or social background in Indonesia. While this philosophy has been influential in developing Indonesian education policy over the past several decades, it has also come under criticism for its emphasis on self-reliance and individualism and its perceived lack of accountability toward students in Indonesia (Suprapto, 2016). Additionally, some have argued that Merdeka Belajar does not provide enough opportunities for students to engage in collaborative learning activities. Nonetheless, overall the philosophy remains popular among Indonesian educators and students alike and continues to be influential in shaping educational policy (Aliyyah et al., 2020). Some factors include the program’s cost, the program quality, and the availability of scholarships or other financial aid.

Based on “Merdeka Belajar,” the Indonesian government has started believing in online education, which means that students should be free to learn in an environment that is supportive and conducive to their academic needs.
