Training is the whole process of acquisition of skills, knowledge and ability as a result of the impacting vocational knowledge or practical skills that relate to specific useful competencies. Great training focuses on what a learner will be able to do by the end of the training. Statements which defines what a student is expected to be able to do as a result of a learning activity (Killen, 2007) are called learning outcomes. In this paper, learning outcomes emphasized by the training program offered by Schneider National transportation Management Company will be discussed. Moreover, features of Schneider’s training program that contribute to learning will also be discussed. Schneider’s training program learners’ outcomes can be classified into three categories namely; onboard paper work skills, soft skills and practical skills (maneuvering of truck). Drivers are first equipped with the required onboard paper work skills which will help them to know how to use paper logs and permit books. In soft skills, learners are expected to have skills in interacting with people and environment in which they will be operating (Jossey-Bass Inc, 2008). This will enable drivers to have skills in trip planning as well as interaction skills.
At the end of training, drivers are expected to have practical skills on how to operate the truck. This is achieved through using various ways and methods. It is first taught through the use of simulation of truck maneuvering. Then practical session is conducted through the help of instruction engineer.
