Diversity in Wal-Mart
Diversity entails acceptance and respect. In other words, it is acknowledging that each person is unique, and recognizing the existing differences among different individuals. These can be along the dimensions of ethnicity, race, gender, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and political beliefs. In Wal-Mart, the top management ensures diversity is at place by holding various meetings, where a thorough scrutiny of new hires, promotions, and departures, is done. In their analysis, they pay more attention to women from traditionally unrepresented groups, men from traditionally represented groups, and the total people from unrepresented groups. To come up with a conclusion, they take an overview of turnover. In most cases, they are more interested in women turnover compared with men, and minority compared to non-minority.
