According to the leader-follower theory, communication is key to ensuring a better working relationship (Stewart, 2005). Desired outcomes and meaningful dialogues depend on the personalities of the leader and the follower. The way a leader handles a follower dictate the amount of value and recognition that an organization has on the employees. A healthy relationship between a leader and a follower of a lower rank depends on the communication between the two, since effective communication is imperative in building a mature dyadic relationship (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004). Listening is an important communication aspect that determines the nature of interaction and relationship between a leader and a follower.
