Leadership in the Sports Industry Name Institution Course and Code Professor Date Leadership in the Sports Industry Answer a Jeff Vinik of the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey club and Ted Leonsis, the chief executive officer (CEO), chairman, and founder of Monumental Sports and Entertainment are prominent leaders and owners of two National Hockey League (NHL) franchises. In reality, their teams have been more successful since they have outstanding performances. The common leadership style used by Leonsis and Vinik is transformative theory. In particular, transformative leadership style leads to relevant changes in people and social systems. Transformative leaders facilitate positive change by influencing and motivating their followers to achieve set goals. When Vinik bought the Tampa Bay Lighting hockey team in 2010, he believed that he could effectively build a lasting brand, provide a world-class fan experience, and make the team a change agent for the neighboring community via philanthropic initiatives (Greyser & Mondello, 2019). From my observation, I perceive Vinik and Leonsis' leadership responsibilities as similar in several aspects. For instance, these leaders are committed, build proper relationships with their stakeholders, and do everything to fight for the well-being of their clubs.
