ExxonMobil is a multinational gas and oil corporation with its headquarters in Irving, Texas. It is subdivided into three divisions which include: the upstream division situated in Houston Texas which is responsible for oil discovery, extraction, distribution (transportation) and other operations, the chemical division also in Houston Texas and finally the downstream division for its marketing and retailing found at Fairfax, Virginia. ExxonMobil receives a moderate congratulator note for its planning and logistics. Most of its operations are streamlined from the raw material supply to delivery of the refined products and even in ensuring security standards for both its staff and operation (Coll, 2012).
To begin with, the final petroleum products are efficiently transported from the refineries by rail wagons, marine vessels, pipeline and even road trucks. Storage is mainly by underground warehouses which are highly secure and hidden. Security of the personnel is ensured through training and awareness programs, live camera feeds are used to monitor the storage areas and processing/ production step. A hazard appraisal and response competences are conducted for future planning. An inventory is also carried out effectively for material worth evaluation, at their cost or less, and to find compare profit margins from financial periods. Inventory however, delves into neither retail nor administrative expenses.
How Exxon/Mobil might more effectively implement comprehensive logistics planning
For every upside, there is a downside and various improvements that can be made. The three subdivisions should be further subdivided into smaller divisions to be responsible for every aspects of the company for more efficiency and effectiveness. The multiple spillages should be worked on immediately they occur before much loss is experienced and technology should be factored into the planning process. Planning should also be carried out of the smaller divisions made.
