Effective leadership requires you to harness both the minds and hearts of employees to enable change to occur and take root in the company’s culture. When mentioning one of the best-performing stores in the world, Walmart is a name that cannot miss. Despite being founded in the 20th century, Walmart has remained one of the best-performing companies in this era. Since its introduction in 1962, Walmart has become one of the best-performing companies globally. For instance, by 2022, the company had more than 30 million U.S. homes In-home delivery. One of the reasons the company has succeeded is how it has minimized operating costs, directly dealt with manufacturers, and motivated its associates. Even though the company has outstanding results, it has some challenges that could affect its performance. To continue maintaining its top position, Walmart should check the challenges that it could be having and offer prompt responses.
Even though Walmart has some challenges, the main one is the problem of adapting to rapid change in the retail industry. For instance, the rise in e-commerce and the rise in the need for online shopping have made Walmart employ measures to embrace the changing trend. For example, the company has failed to successfully integrate online and offline operations. If the company fails to look for the changes of the following challenge, it will start to lose its competitive advantage, losing its competitive advantage and leadership position.
One solution to solve these problems should be applying advanced technologies and data analytics. Walmart should consider investing in various technologies, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, in managing its activities (Harvard, 2018). For instance, this technology could help the company attain an accurate view of its supply, monitor its orders' progress, and identify potential bottlenecks. This process would help Walmart to note the problem early and embrace fast corrective action based on informed decisions, boosting its competitive advantage.
