Chapters 1 and 2 gives strengthens the fact that writing is an important tool for communicating. More than the words we use for our writing, it is important to consider our purpose as well as our intended audience in order for our written work to be effective. Chapter 1 shows me that there are a number of tones that can be utilized in written communications, and it all depends on how we are connected with the recipient of the letter. Also, it tells me that regardless of the tone we use - whether friendly or stern - letters must communicate clearly what it wants to achieve, and it has to be diplomatic in the process.
Meanwhile, Chapter 2 tells me that when it comes to writing, one must not only be clear and concise, but also relevant. Knowing the background of the audience helps a lot when choosing how i will construct my sentences, and what sort of words I will use. Moreover, it shows me that when it comes to writing, short and simple is the best way to go.
2.
Chapter 3 is very useful for me because it gives me a process of writing . Through the four steps - madman, architect, carpenter and judge - I get a sense of where to start any writing work. This way, I can avoid punishing myself if I am unable to write in full sentences immediately when I do decide to write. Moreover, the process showed me a way of exploring the topic I have chosen and enabling me to organize my thoughts so that I only choose important details the supports the actual purpose of my written work.
Chapter 4 gives me the same lesson as Chapter 3, that writing is a process that has t o start with brainstorming. The difference is that, Chapter 4 shows me that in orer for my written work to be concise, I have to choose three main points that I would like to focus on.
