BARRIERS TO RISK MANAGERS FACE Name Institution Instructor Date of Submission Barriers to Risk Managers Face There are several barriers to risk that managers have to overcome in order to realize their goal of a balanced and fully functional managed care. Firstly, risk managers must deal with the constant patient's complaints about malpractice on the side of the medical systems, such as carelessness, negligence and inconsistent denial of investigational services to patients. Secondly, risk managers must regularly face the challenges of policy and legal issues (Frank, 2005). According to Frank (2005), these two issues are a result of the contrast between restrictive nature of managed care and the need for extra care to people with disabilities. The challenge that risk managers must overcome is ensuring that the institution does not make losses - or face liability charges while at the same time offering extra care to people who need it (such as rehabilitation services, assistive devices, and special medical referrals among others). Regarding these barriers, the manager has a duty to reduce cost and increase profitability of the institution while at the same time, making sure that the patients get optimum care. In order to achieve this, the managers can take a number of actions, which include adjusting the company policies to accommodate patients with special needs and disabilities (Miyaji, 2007). Risk managers can also recommend preventive care to their patients, provide adequate supervision during treatment, and take extra caution when offering informal consultations to patients.
