Be sure to identify the restaurant you have chosen in your written paper. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you: Describe key areas of the selected company's code of conduct that are of significant importance to the business, and explain why. Explain the key steps that the company should take to ensure that employees follow the code of conduct. Suggest three (3) ways in which the restaurant can engage in socially responsive activities in the community within which it operates. Use at least two (2) quality resources. ETHICAL AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIVE BUSINESS STUDENT PROFESSOR COURSE DATE A code of conduct refers to a collection of regulations and rules demarcating the responsibilities of or suitable performances for an individual, party or company. It may also imply the values and standards or rules of behavior that lead the decisions, events and systems of an association in a way that add to the wellbeing of its key stakeholders, and respects the rights of all constituents affected by its operations. The areas that are of significant importance when it comes to the company`s code of conduct, in this case we looking at a restaurant by this name, RUBY TUESDAY, INC., include compliance with the laws, rules, and regulations. This code of conduct is of significant importance since without the employees and other partisans of the company not abiding by the regulations, then commotions and chaos result making governance and control hectic. Some of the regulations relevant to the company include Preventing harassment and discrimination of any kind especially, one involving religion, race, color, gender, age, sexual orientation or nationality. It is unacceptable. Another rule is that of insider trading. It clearly stipulates that it is against RUBY TUESDAY, INC.( RTI`s) insider trading policy for any employee, officer to profit from the material non public information concerning RUBY TUESDAY, INC.RTI (Post, Lawrence, 2002). Improper payments are another rule whereby it is the responsibility of every employee, officer or director of the company to comply with the foreign corrupt practices act and similar laws which prevent the payment of bribes or kick backs. Environmental compliance is another rule that is stipulated in the RTI`s code of conduct. It is stated that it is RTI`s concern to eliminate any hazards from the work environment to provide a health and safe work place. Its thus crucial for every employee or officer to use or handle RTI`s equipment in a proper and safe manner and dispose hazardous and toxic materials in accordance with RTI`s policy. Conflict of interest is another key area in the code of conduct in RUBY TUESDAY, INC.RTI. A conflict of interest may occur when an individual`s personal interest interferes or appears to interfere, with RTI`s interests. The interest of employees, officers of directors may conflict directly or indirectly with those of RTI. Such conflicts of interest include loans by RTI to its employees of officers, outside investments by the employees or officers or directors of RTI, which are either suppliers or connected in a way with the operations of RTI, or any investments in RTI, and business courtesies not approved by the chief compliance of RTI. Such conflicts of interest are not desirable and must not be entered into without prior consent of RTI. This is because an existence of such drives away the attention of performance from RTI to the employee or officer`s interest thus leading to under performance in the company (Post, Lawrence, 2002). Proper use of assets is another code of conduct that must be abided with. It is required of employees to use RTI`S assets in the most efficient manner. The assets should only be used for conducting activities RTI businesses.
