Designers use hierarchy to direct the delivery and importance of contents or pages in a book by manipulating text sizes and color depth.
Basic Typographic Hierarchy
This serves to paint a picture of the flow of text in a book; an example is the table of contents in a book that offers a book's preview. It helps one quickly access practical information and provides insight into the book's organization by distinguishing parts and subheadings or different entries.
Inverted Hierarchy
This principle presents information in reducing order of relevance or importance. In this case, the most crucial information is listed first and the least important listed in the end. For instance, in the picture of a food product presented in the text, the designer placed suggested food compatibles at the top of the hierarchy, supplementing the product name.
Dimensional Hierarchy
This principle allows data to be organized in levels that appeal to the viewer allowing the interaction of the message, for instance, in labels, to interact beyond their boundaries. Designers use the principle to develop color fields and graphic elements that shift the viewer's eye around it, thereby establishing a visual or verbal connection with other packages when smacked horizontally or vertically.
