South Africa is a country governed through a representative democracy. Members of different parties go to an election get representative into the National Assembly. The president is usually elected through the National Assembly, which is the lower house of government's legislative arm. Notably, the president is the head of government and head of state. Since the national assembly elects the president, he or she must maintain the lower house's confidence to remain in office (Republic of South Africa, n.d.).
There are also provincial legislatures that are mandated to guide and govern the nine provinces within the country. The politics are through multiparty elections, and the party with many representatives in the National Assembly elects the president. Political actors influence policy through the legislative assemblies in the provinces and parliament.
