Besides, rehabilitation of offenders is only possible if the needs of such individuals are identified. That way, correctional programs can be designed to reduce recidivism by helping offenders improve their behaviors, providing relevant education, evaluating mental health, and facilitating the acquisition of vital skills that can help these people reenter society with ease. As such, community-based probation officers play crucial roles in identifying offenders’ needs and connecting them with rehabilitation services that can help them change their behaviors positively (Fox et al., 2022). When it comes to additional training that should be provided to probation officers, the primary focus should be on improving these law enforcers’ skills to assess the needs of offenders accurately. Other training programs that can improve the confidence of probation officers include the mastery of mediation, communication, and conflict resolution skills so that they can maintain professionalism and interact with offenders on parole well to enhance their reentry to society smoothly (Robinson et al., 2023).
