Elevator Speech on the Role of the NP

Overview The purpose of this assignment is to prepare you as future APRNs to communicate your professional role and clarify the difference between APRNs and other advanced practice healthcare providers. In this assignment, you will record a brief elevator speech that communicates your professional identity, goals, and value as an APRN. An elevator speech is a short, clear summary of who you are, what you do, and what makes you unique, delivered in the time it takes to ride an elevator (usually 30–60 seconds). It's a quick way to introduce yourself and leave a strong impression (I will do the recording after you do the paperwork) Instructions Put yourself in one of the following elevator rides. You will only have about 30–60 seconds before the doors open. How will you use that time to communicate your professional identity as an APRN? Patient Encounter: You’re in the elevator with a patient who notices your badge and asks, “What do you do here?” Offer a warm, clear intro that explains your role and builds trust. APRN Mentor: In the elevator at a seminar, a respected APRN asks, “What brought you into advanced practice?” Share your passion and goals in a brief, meaningful response. Hiring Manager: At a job fair, a hiring manager steps into the elevator and says, “Tell me about yourself.” Give a confident summary that highlights your skills and enthusiasm. Clinical Leader: You’re riding with your site’s director of nursing, who asks, “What’s your MSN focus?” Use the moment to share your idea and demonstrate initiative. This assignment requires you to use at least three scholarly references. Submit a Microsoft Word document with the link to your video and include the references there.
