Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond was the book that gave me the essential insight for this development and emphasized culturally inclusive teaching strategies bridging across disciplines. Moreover, a webinar relating to inclusive curriculum design was used to provide a practical pathway to including interdisciplinary learning. Thanks to these resources, and a biblical reference from Proverbs 18:15, I was able to grow in the application of knowledge from several fields to foster richer learning experiences for students. Artifacts and Activities Paper: Third Norm Developed Assignment Introduction One of my Content Competency Development Plan weaknesses lies in the use of interdisciplinary knowledge in the teaching of my classroom. This competency aligns with InTASC Standard 4, which seeks to involve the students in a problem or question where concepts from various disciplines may be put together. I became aware of the fact that teaching involved more than just knowledge delivery and then I strived to find ways to integrate a holistic approach. My lesson plans began as mostly subject-specific and isolated concepts from one another. For instance, I would teach literature without taking into account relevant historical, scientific, or cultural perspectives. These gaps had to be addressed and I explored the scholarly resources and professional development available, which was Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond, to make the most of the interdisciplinary instruction that I employed. Achieving the threshold set in InTASC Standards steers the need to exploit various inputs, especially the spiritual and scholarly guidelines that can give insights into newer avenues of developing various competencies.
