Being mutually exclusive alludes to events that have no common elements in them. Mutually exclusive events ensure that the occurrence of one event means that the other does not occur. That said, being mutually exclusive can be as simple as events failing to happen simultaneously. For example, consider the possibility of walking; a person cannot walk forward and backward at the same time. They must do one activity at a time—meaning the event of walking forwards supersedes the possibility of walking backward (Surbhi, 2017). Another effective example is an individual’s ability to watch a TV program if they do not have a TV.
