Understanding the suitable methodology to use relative to one's goal is essential for a researcher. It allows for the improvement of the study’s design with the appropriate and effective methodology to turn raw data into actual results. Accordingly, this article would focus on using a quantitative methodology for the research topic, change scope in UNRWA's (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) programs and activities. This includes the appropriateness and effectiveness of a quantitative methodology in approaching this problem and the necessity for change within its program. Overall, the author believes that a quantitative methodology would give a better grasp of the needs of the whole population that can be further segmented and targeted to increase its effectiveness.
Background of the Study
Currently, the proposed topic for this research is the necessity and feasibility of changing the scope of UNRWA's programs. The primary purpose of UNRWA is to provide the necessities of refugees, including primary healthcare, infrastructure, and camp improvement, microfinance and emergency response, and even primary and vocation education, among others, for refugees from areas afflicted with armed conflict (UNRWA.Org, n.d.). However, several opinions about the UNRWA posits that the organization should be abolished or its scope should be changed due to various reasons such as; (1) corruption and ineffectiveness, (2) misdefinition of who are considered as 'refugees,' and its (3) protection gap, among others (United Nations, 2019). However, the author believes that (1) the UNRWA's activities and relief operations are essential and (2) that administrative issues could be further improved through a quantitative approach to asset allocation.
Quantitative Methodology
There are two reasons why the author believes that a quantitative methodology is essential for the proposed research, namely (1) to show the general statistics, which would support the necessity for UNRWA's services and (2) to improve the administration of funds and resources by synthesizing demographic data of refugees.
On the one hand, a quantitative methodology could provide demographic data about the beneficiaries of UNRWA and the number of vulnerable populations. Particularly this would show the relationship between the number of the at-risk population (IV) and the efficiency rate (DV) of the current programs that are being implemented by the agency.
Quantitative methods such as descriptive and correlational research could provide a general overview on questions such as; (1) the demographics of the vulnerable population, (2) the efficiency rate and effectiveness of current relief efforts, and (3) individual perceptions regarding the outcome of such project. One example of a quantitative survey surveyed the risks factors in UNRWA's refugee camps, including hyperglycemia and hypertension (Mousa et al., 2010). This research helped ...
