While at first glance it may look like investing in Company Z is the better investment because of the extra $0.25 per share, their negative PR around the environment and workforce challenges with over pollution and the use of sweatshops is a bit concerning. “Companies do not function in isolation from the society around them. In fact, their ability to compete depends heavily on the circumstances of the locations where they operate” (Greater Rockford Chamber of Commerce, 2021). This means that Company Z looks good when analyzing the return on my investment, but the long-term decision to invest would most likely be a failure in the long run because their decision to use tactics that are cheaper for them is looked at negatively by society (Deep, 2023).
