The author aims to provide evidence supporting the narrative that preschool programs play a significant role in nurturing children's success through high scores on standardized tests, increased rates of high school graduation on time, reduced crime rate, and increased average earnings at a young age. The author further claims that the preschool experience gives children the urge to learn and play an active part in an engaging educational conversation (Lamy, 2013). The metrics used by the author to measure how preschool programs fight poverty and the studies done to support the findings leave her with a strong inference that every child should be subjected to a preschool experience to increase their chances of success in their future lives. Summary Lamy (2013) reviewed evidence from three rigorous longitudinal studies that reported the effects of high-quality preschool programs on children. The studies randomly assigned children to preschool and non-preschool experiment groups over several decades (Lamy, 2013). Findings show that preschool children had significantly more success in school and life than the control children. Additionally, the researchers reported that preschool children had significantly higher scores on standardized tests (Lamy, 2013). These children also graduated from high school on time at a higher rate and had minimum chances of committing a crime. More importantly, most preschool children had an average lifetime earnings of about $ 150,000 or higher than the control groups (Lamy, 2013).
