Present a critical incident: an excerpt from your practice in which you tried to provide help to an individual, group, family or community. 1. Present a summary of the case situation which includes your assessment, treatment plan and other relevant issues. 2. Use 7-8 consecutive transactions. Start with a verbal or non-verbal client response. Underline the things you said or did and number your actions. Where silence is the response, call attention to this as an action. Select four client/worker transactions and answer the following questions for each. Try to select sequential interventions. a) What is your present “reading” or understanding of what the client is primarily saying or doing? She was sent to our substance abuse program by her social worker at the Department of Child and Family Services. This shows the high level of involvement with social services. X seems to be at least somewhat motivated to make some meaningful changes to her circumstances, but when we interact, she gets nervous and seems to be struggling emotionally at times. Our evaluation shows us this woman's primary task of staying sober is to have custody of her child restored. The intervention plan includes the treatment of substance use disorder through counseling sessions, group therapies, and other referral services for her social and emotional well-being. Moreover, the goal is to develop a supportive therapeutic alliance that will guarantee the engagement and motivation of the patient in the recovery period. Consecutive Transactions One Social Worker: Hello, welcome to our session. Client: Thank you, I need help with anxiety and substance abuse as I need to get better for my children. Two Social Worker: X shows doubt and hesitation about her ability to change by looking down and fiddling with her skirt. Client: "I don't know if I can do this." Three Social Worker: Yes, you can, you are here it shows you are ready to start. "It's ok to be afraid. We're here to help you," Client: What if I go back to alcohol after the process?
