It is worth highlighting that Asians in the United States are hugely vulnerable to individual prejudice, hate, and discrimination in the country (Golash-Boza, 2021). Undoubtedly, most Asians have reported to have experienced or know an Asian American who has experienced racial discrimination while living in different communities and states in America. According to statistical records, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen an increase in discrimination against Asian Americans, with discriminatory incidences, reports, and deaths increasing significantly during this period. In 2022, surveys indicate that this year was the second worst, with the highest reports of Asian American discriminatory incidences and hate crimes. In 2021, the number of Asian Americans discriminated against in the country reached its highest tally (Yee, 2021). It is essential to note the significant reason for this is the association of Asians with the origin of the COVID-19 virus (Yee, 2021). Nonetheless, many Asians in the United States have individually experienced prejudice and racial hate while being dubbed as foreigners in America. As highlighted in the introductory paragraph, many Asian Americans born and living in the United States are vulnerable to individual prejudice and hate. They are discriminated against due to their racial background. Understandably, Asian Americans comprise over seven percent of the United States population. This translates to about twenty-three million five hundred thousand Asian Americans in the different states in the country (Golash-Boza, 2021). Noticeably, about a third of this group has experienced and reported incidents of discrimination and prejudicial hate, with many respondents stating that they have been told to return to their place of origin and home country. Furthermore, about seventy-eight percent of these individuals have been treated differently and ostracized as foreigners. This has shown that national priority and attention to this issue are low. During the onset of the pandemic, many Asian Americans were subject to prejudicial crimes and threats, with many respondents reporting cases of stereotyping, ridicule, and victimization (Yee, 2021). It is essential to note that this was from all Asians born in America and those who visited or migrated to the United States. Prejudicial crimes such as being spat on, mispronouncing one's name, threats, and mass shooting incidents are some of the discriminatory practices many Asians in America face during their day-to-day operations (Yee, 2021). An excellent example of racial discrimination and prejudicial attack is the case of an eighty-three-year-old grandmother who was punched in her face and spat on in Westchester in 2021. The onset of the novel coronavirus has seen reports of hate crimes increase in America, with over three thousand cases reported in 2020 (Yee, 2021). This has increased fear among many Asian Americans, with most people from this minority ethnic community fearing for their lives and safety. As reported by the ABC news post, Nancy Toh was assaulted by a suspected homeless assailant while visiting the Westchester Mall near her residential area in White Plains. The incident, which occurred around seven-thirty o'clock, left the old lady injured in the head (Lenthang, 2021). The assailant attacked Nancy, spitting on her face and later punching her during the incident. The lady momentarily passed out after falling and hitting her head. This incident illustrates the issue of racial discrimination and individual prejudice due to racial diversification. It is worth noting that many Asians living in the United States, especially after the outbreak of coronavirus, were subjected to similar incidents and attacks highlighting their vulnerabilities while living in America. This incident, among other forms of prejudice, has perpetuated fear among many Asians, with family members limiting their communal activities and living due to anxiety and stigmatization (Lenthang, 2021). Consequently, this inhibits social values, ethics, and connectedness, thus inhibiting quality cultural diversification. Similarly, physical attacks and stereotyping of Asian Americans have also increased stigma among Asians living in America. As illustrated in the case mentioned above report by ABC News, families and family members of the affected victims suffer psychological torture and emotional abuse, with their lives subject to further racism and abuse.
