Every day bears the potential to change our lives completely. Any day that we wake up, we unknowingly place ourselves in the path of events, positive and negative, whose effects could be felt throughout the rest of our lives. However, while some events come to us, we have to take ourselves to others. It is this curiosity and needs for adventure that brightens our lives. It is through this quest to experience new events that my life, as well as the lives of my siblings and thousands of other Americans, were brightened one day in the spring of 2017. You must have probably seen pictures of happy people covered in colors, especially in the spring. Well, these pictures got my family interested, and we decided to attend the event. It is called the Holi Festival or the Festival of Colors.
The festival is associated with large crowds throwing colorful powders at each other. It is a Hindu festival that is celebrated to mark the arrival of spring. Though it has its roots in India, the festival is celebrated in different countries across the world, including the United States. Since a large Indian population has traditionally settled in the U.S., the festival is celebrated with great fanfare around the country. Various Indian communities in the U.S. help organize the festival and incorporate various acts such as music that increase the beauty of the festival (Kuruvilla).
The festival is usually split into two, Rangwali Holi and Holika Dahan. Holika Dahan is celebrated on the night before Rangwali Holi’s celebration.
