[Your Name] [Professor’s Name] [Course Name and Number] [Date of Submission] Facebook and How it Affects our Social Network Introduction The recent popularity of social networking is reflecting that the majority of users are using such types of sites are young adults. It can be said that different modes of communication using technology such as text messaging, email, and instant messaging can remain dominant forms of interaction or messaging on the social networking site. It is obvious that social media and specifically Facebook can affect interpersonal communications while altering the way that people interact with one another (Rheingold; Fraser and Dutta; Kincaid). With a large portion of the developed population using virtual worlds, newsgroups, social networking sites, and online games that are widespread are being influenced in both manners positive and negative. It is of greater concern that people are considering social connections online because community is highly sought after or the same people looking for entertainment (Stenzel and Nesdahl; Stephen). This paper is reflecting the influence of social networking specifically Facebook on the people. Background of the Study Today, the social networking especially Facebook becomes a considerable phenomena. Since, whereas Facebook provides ability to an individual to instantly keep in touch and communicate with the other members including friends, relatives, colleagues and general people, on the other hand it significantly influencing real social life and networks of the people including teenagers and adults (Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe; Rheingold). The use of Facebook poses problems for the society and raise question around family interaction, social skills, and privacy. The issue of Facebook was begun when it was become common in 21st century and particularly within 4 to 5 years. However, as the time passing and new technologies emerging and involving in our daily lives, the social issues with the Facebook are rising considerably and affecting several aspects of our social lives (Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe). However, from social perspective or real life social network, it is examined that the social media like Facebook has actually imposed quite negative effects. These impacts of Facebook on the social network of the people are mainly targeting the stakeholders such as children, teenagers, students, and adult people. Whereas, the Facebook disrupting the social life of the people on the other side it has been influencing interpersonal skills of the people as well as it appears to magnify the existing social behavior of the people. For instance, if an individual tends to be more socially isolated in the offline social life of the people, so that he or can spends lot of time online and can intensify that (Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe; Cereno and Leung-Kei). On the opposite side, the fact is also acceptable since if someone tends to be a social butterfly in the offline world, the social media like Facebook can assist individual to cultivate those connections. From number of recent researches, it has been found that the users of Facebook has large social circle and more social ties as compare to non-users of Facebook and these users of Facebook are more likely and have more potential to recognize their networks socially supportive (Rheingold; Wortham; Biddle; Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe). Thus, in the light of different studies, it can be said that contrary to popular concerns that people who use Facebook are in some ways limiting their abilities and skills to make real interpersonal associations and real life friends who can assist them effectively since online friends and connections have no such potential to take care of their online friend. In addition to this, there are number of researches and studies also conducted on the social impacts of Facebook on the life of Facebook users and the results obtained from the researchers suggested that the Facebook could catalyze close, supportive, and civically engaged relationships. Another considerable social impact of using Facebook is that it creates misunderstanding between the connections or friends by creating emotional and psychological issues (Fraser and Dutta; Wortham). These kinds of issues are principally observed among the teenagers who involved in making emotional relationships with the online users. Besides, most of social concerns are associated with the privacy of people since the database of large social media networks such as Facebook is full of private information in which most of the information is available for public that create social issues for the Facebook users in terms of security (Wortham; Kincaid; Stenzel and Nesdahl). Facebook also playing a vital role in ending the relationship, since according to the study, it is determined that the teens also 1% of adults and 22% of teens had experienced ending of their friendship permanently (Biddle; Gorman and McLean). Thus, in this case, the people not only lost their online friends, but due to lack of real social networks and friends that found in stress of both kinds psychological and emotional. It is because they have no opportunity to overcome their stress by sharing it with their offline social friends. Hence, it can be said that whereas the use of social media including Facebook brings innovation and enhancing knowledge area of individuals, on the other hand it is raising several kinds of social issues that needs to be address through effective techniques and approaches that could be both online and offline (Biddle; Stephen; Cereno and Leung-Kei; Fraser and Dutta). Causes of this Problem It is noted that it is interesting to explore the potential of sharing more experiences within social circle as an evolutionary step in word-of-mouth marketing. It is remained convinced that the biggest impact of social media on our own behavior is significant. The potential to document lives of people online means that a status is updated on Facebook, Tweet, or Instagrammed picture, which is not a record or reflection of our behavior but a direct cause of it (Wankel, Marovich and Stanaityte; Fraser and Dutta). The positive and negative causes of the social media are discussed as below: Friend and Relations Social network is started as a place to connect with friends in most convenient manner and it can be said that many of people have found their old friends from school or college, who were out of contact for different reasons.
