Computers in our Lives and Educational Lives
The computer has become an intricate part of our daily lives that imagining a day without it is really out of question. You will find the computer in virtually every sphere of our lives. In this fast paced modern life, the computer hold tremendous significance. The first computer that was invented was a desktop, and soon it became a household name but that was not the end, it was just the beginning. No later, the desktop was replaced by the laptop, and technology moved to the next level. Today we even have the Tablets. The use of either the desktop or laptop is predicated by the circumstance; while many people prefer to use a laptop because they can take it with them everywhere, especially for those who travel a lot, others prefer the desktop because a desktop has a large monitor. Today, the computer is an inseparable part of development and the world has accepted the inevitability of this gadget: homes, schools, companies, and banks. Computers have improved every part of our lives (Bolt, 18).
The traditional modes of communication such as post mail and landline phones today seem absolute, thanks to the computers which have become critical for communication in these days and times; the computer is the centerpiece of information technology. The emergence of household internet which began in the 1990s has spurred the common use of websites, emails, blogs, video chats or Skype, social networking and even Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VOIP).
Technology is important for everyone because many things can not work without technology. The most famous aspect of technology is computers. I have been a computers junkie since I was a child. I got my first computer when I was in Elementary school and I have spent much of my time using that computer; it`s amazing how this electronic device is capable of bringing everything near to me. And every day while I was using that gadget was indeed a learning experience; from when I learnt that computers use only two numbers to translate any number or word. Today, I would feel crippled without a computer.
Computers are very important for the disabled learner. Wehave many educators who can`t see, talk, or hear. Therefore, technology or computers can help those people to get the information they want to find because computers and Internet haveawesome programs to help them learn just like I do. The resourcefulness of the Computer and the Internet is imperative for the classroom teacher. One of the key fandom of the computer is efficiency; where the teacher can find ingenious support from the computer to plan the lessons, get information and materials and other support from the computer. There are websites that have been developed for this ends like LEADERS which presents the teacher with several links tailored to help teachers of reading and writing. There are many ways in which teachers can utilize the internet for efficacy; one of them is the feature of the teacher websites that provides for readymade lesson plans on top offering suggestions on a wide array of topics. There is also the listservs and bulletin boards, a feature that enables teachers from far and wide to brainstorm with each other on ideas that are helpful to teach (Simons, 23).
Further, learning materials for both teachers and students are now available online making it easy for teachers to not only have an access to them but also purchase them, therefore saving them the man-hours involved in moving from one book store to another. Listservs and bulletin provides an integral forum for professionals to share experiences and best plans to handle situations and update one another on the latest news on a particular subject. In addition, there is a reassurance that one gets from feeling that they are part of group of professionals who have similar aspirations and circumstances (Simons, 41).
There are many other websites that teachers find resourceful for a variety of topics that the teacher might be interested in. This information may range from the teacher wanting to know how to best help a student with some special needs, or the best strategy to teach a certain topic. The teacher may also want to know how they can use technology to meet the learning and psychological needs of the disabled students (Marglit, 51).
