While 1 Thessalonians is undisputedly Paul's letter, 2 Thessalonians is considered by some scholars to be deutero-Pauline. This is because the eschatology in 2 Thessalonians is incompatible with the one in the first letter. In 1 Thessalonians, Paul writes to Thessalonians about what they already know, with the exception of 4:13-5:11. According to Brown, Paul teaches Thessalonians what they already know because the community had made an enormous change in accepting belief in one God and therefore, recalling what had already been preached was appropriate. In 4:13-5:11, Paul teaches about the second coming of Christ, which was integral in giving them strength after affliction and suffering. The pressure on the Thessalonian community was different when Paul was writing the letters, which may explain their variation in eschatology and exhortation. While it is often assumed that Thessalonians belonged to low economic status, from Acts, it can be deduced that those who believed were people of means.
