At present, the global labor market with evolving work processes is requiring diverse skills that are not efficient for many people from different backgrounds and competences. Firstly, the diversity includes deaf and hard of hearing individuals who encounter communication challenges and discrimination when going for a jobs. In addition to this, the program proposed in this article is the formation of a job club that can take into account the particular situation of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. These initiative goals of creating a space of support in which members access career guidance, training and networking to boost their employability skills, comfort and their readiness to cope with the job market successfully will be attained.
The job club is a friendly community that largely comprises of the hearing-impaired and deaf individuals who have a shared mission of creating a place where these students can find the necessary tools and resources which can be utilized to ease their job search process. Its purpose is twofold: mentioned are to unite members with hearing impairments and to be able to make the job-hunting spree a success besides other employment hurdles that may be faced by people of deaf and hearing difficulties. And so the job club is the place where people gather and encourage each other as they undergo the process of transition. Moreover, mentoring and training on skills is used to build the members' sense of self-esteem and autonomy (Amrine & Bullis, 2019; Maietta, 2012). The employment club is to realize the goal hence it will be sponsored by this Department of Rehabilitation.
The club is only set to host groups with a handful of members, that is, 8-12 members per group. This limits the number of participants per group, thereby allowing substantial interaction, peer support and meaningful attention. The classes, held once in a week, last on average 90 minutes each, during this time, there are discussions, work in groups, and speakers. In the group, there is a type of closed structure that does not change when the group is already formed and will end only when the program ends. The ambiance of this setting makes trust, confidentiality, and community atmosphere that led to openness, sincerity, and discussion freely around any work-related experiences, difficulties, and dreams. Moreover, the club's targeted population, deaf and hard-of-hearing post-secondary students in between educational and working processes, is the club's target group. Consequently, secondary school students choosing college after school, college students getting ready to enter the workforce, and after school graduates seeking employment. are experiencing this.
