Another misconception is that suicidal acts occur solely on impulse, with no warning signs; most suicidal persons demonstrate overt behaviors indicative of distress and may seek help (Naguy et al., 2020). Therefore, it is helpful to take time to address these fallacies for a better-educated approach to the prevention of suicide. Mental Risk Factors Depression Depression is one of the most prominent mental risk factors for suicide when it continuously worsens without interest in formerly pleasant activities and a general feeling of hopelessness. Such symptoms may lead to suicidal ideation because patients experiencing this cannot see any other way out to alleviate their emotional suffering (Maung, 2021). Major depressive disorder, for example, including depressed mood and feelings of worthlessness, is one of the leading diagnoses often made in cases when suicide is completed. This analysis, however, found that the connection is partly self-fulfilling because recurrent suicidal ideation becomes part of the diagnostic criteria for depression. Anxiety Disorders Anxiety, particularly generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder, also increase the risk of suicide. Typically, individuals with anxiety disorders usually experience high levels of uncontrollable worry or fear, in most instances weighing on the victims and tiring them out (Maung, 2021). For example, there is an increased risk of suicide related to panic disorder because most people generally experience great distress along with physical symptoms during panicked states.
