The digital communities have been instrumental in transforming modern society. The development of different social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter among others has been fundamental in the revolution of the world of business and has also changed how people interact. Technological changes experienced in the last few centuries have redefined how business activities are performed. Social media platforms have facilitated the establishment of social media channels that are fundamental in catering to specific groups of audiences. The growth of these social media platforms has gone hand in hand with the ever-changing landscape of the global society, which has slowly moved towards embracing the internet and information technology as a whole.
In its totality therefore, social media has turned into the communication platform of choice, and to a great extent even going past communication only, to fostering business. Facebook has remained of the largest social media platforms and it has over two billion monthly active users. Ever since the advent of the communication or information age, Facebook has grown from year to year, garnering more users on its platform than any other social media platform outside Twitter. In Facebook, people can communicate through texts, images, and video messages. The platform has been designed in such a way that it is extremely user friendly, even for first time users. There is basically a lot that attracts a user to the interface, with great features that are self-guiding and self-explanatory. It has effective features that facilitate the creation of groups and pages for business and promote engagement between the business owners and potential customers. This has in turn brought so many businesses onto the platform and increased its visibility to the world market.
This study evaluates how Facebook has helped in facilitating business commerce and will also analyze how the social media platform has promoted social commerce among the individuals who sell and buy products online. Facebook supports different types of channels that support customer-to-customer (C2C) and promote business-to-customer (B2C) connections (Al-Adwan & Kokash, 2019). Further, the study will be focused on Cener eCommrce Masterminds, an e-commerce group that conducts its activities on Facebook. Cener eCommrce Masterminds is involved in different activities that include establishing stores and conducting marketing activities for new businesses and also teach entrepreneurs about their growth on Shopify, e-commerce and digital marketing, and making inventory systems for businesses. The campaigns were created to make it possible for businesses to promote paid advertisements and create store themes relevant to targeted groups.
Literature Review
Social media in the current age has played quite a pivotal roel in the growt of various businesses, especially the small micro enterprises. With more and more people relying on th internet for information dissemination, it has become almost like a certainty Ideally, Facebook pages and groups are transforming how businesses and entrepreneurs are conducting their businesses and reaching their audiences. Most importantly, small businesses are highly dependent on social media platforms such as Facebook which are critical for marketing and gaining a competitive advantage. Khan & Boehmer (2013) explain that Facebook is one of the largest social media in the world with billions of users. The viewership is in itself quite a boon for any business, since it increases the visibility of the business to markets beyond their local jurisdiction. In other terms, Facebook markets or advertises the businesses to wider markets for their goods and services.
There are numerous advantages that are associated with the use of Facebook in commerce and they include driving new sales and changing customer behaviors (Khan & Boehmer, 2013). Facebook has been increasingly adopted in the business environment because it represents a platform that facilitates community development and also promotes a framework that individuals can use to market their products. The Facebook group, Cener eCommrce Masterminds, enables online entrepreneurs to learn about digital marketing, web analytics, content SEO, and SEM. Additionally, the group also brings together a passionate community of e-commerce and online business builders to enable them to facilitate online-based business activities.Tis has enabled the individuls to build up on their skills when it comes to handling complex tasks in the field of website development and digital or social media engineering.
Facebook also makes it possible for businesses to spread their activities using a Facebook business page. Ghosal & Sarkar (2018) explain that Facebook is useful because it enables sellers to build relationships with their target customers. Facebook has made it possible for small businesses to share their products with billions of customers in less expensive means. Facebook also provides a framework for collecting business leads and this is possible through reading customer's comments to understand what they want. For example, in Cener eCommrce Masterminds, customers can express their opinions about the products posted. Kietzmann, Hermkens, McCarthy & Silvestre (2011) assert that businesses have also adopted Facebook for various reasons that may include communication and marketing and this makes it for entrepreneurs to spread their businesses.
Social media advertising is an important component of business growth in the current age. While it might look like a rather small drop I the ocean, the impacts of the same are quite phenomenal when it comes to increasing product and service knowledge to the people. Furthermore, it has been determined that small businesses would use Facebook in promoting their business activities because it saves cost and saves the time required to promote products (Ghosal & Sarkar, 2018). Effective use of social media platforms such as Facebook would make it possible to connect the business with weak ties and this is critical for facilitating its growth and also increases exposure to the intended customers.
Facebook may also be used to facilitate consumer-to-consumer commercial activities where users can post their products on groups and individuals who see the posts and get interested in making purchases contact the seller and establish a buying arrangement including paying and shipping of the product (Chen, Su & Widjaja, 2016).
