The Need for Standard Waste Recycling Laws Name: University: The world is faced with an impending and serious crisis: the complete exhaustion of its natural resource reserves and environmental pollution. The production and poor management of industrial waste destroys the natural ecosystem, while uncontrolled use of resources portends a shortage crisis. The possibility of such an occasion spells doom to the global economy and unprecedented human health risks. It is a catastrophe that is waiting to happen if no mitigation measures are taken in time. The problem is compounded by a rapidly increasing human population that creates pressure on available resources and accelerates the rate of waste production. At the same time, states, such as in the U.S., apply different waste management regulations, thereby hindering efforts to achieve national environmental conservation goals. It is a matter of urgent necessity, therefore, for governments, environmental agencies and health organizations to formulate and implement policies that would promote efficient use of resources and proper waste management. One viable solution is enacting standard waste recycling laws that will promote environmental friendly corporate practices and regulate the exploitation of resources. Accordingly, this essay argues that recycling laws should reflect shared goals and objectives to avoid conflict and confusion in waste management and increase pollution accountability in the corporate sector. Standard laws are necessary to give law enforces more power prosecute violators of environmental regulations, facilitate inter-state cooperation and responsibility, and reduce health risks posed by poor waste disposal. The standardization of waste management laws will allow policy makers and enforcers to implement policies more effectively than is the case presently. The application of different waste management regulations by states limits the chances of achieving better results in environmental conservation. The problem arises from the existence of different interpretations of infectious wastes. The 1986 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Guidelines for Infectious Waste Management gives waste generators the freedom to implement their own waste recycling measure (Sullivan & Krieger, 2001, p. 626). The disparity of waste management rules means that various stakeholders pull in different directions, a situation that prevents a quick solution to the problem of environmental pollution. The harmonization of recycling rules will enable environmental agencies and policy makers to regulate waste management across the board more effectively. It will give policy makers a wide leverage to deal with environmental pollution. For instance, imposing standard fines for violation of waste management laws will discourage irresponsible investors in states that have lenient pollution laws. Therefore, standardized laws will create an equal playing ground, where all investors have equal responsibility to the environment. Secondly, the standardization of waste recycling laws will potentially lead to efficient utilization of resources. Standard are necessary because governments need to take radical measures to deal with the shortage of resources. Considering that the world is grappling with the scarcity of resources like oil and industrial raw materials, it is necessary to have universal laws that will promote collective responsibility among states. The move will also have a huge econo...
