The ethical dilemma that is facing the physician, or rather the caregiver, relates to whether to inform the patient about the mistake, own up to the mistake, and apologize to the patient based on the principle of autonomy. The lead administrator should play a central role in guiding the application of risk management and ethics to prevent negative implications of the physician failing to own up to the mistake and apologize to the patient based on the ethical principle of autonomy. More physicians and hospitals have been facing legal charges for the negative consequences they have inflicted on patients and their families. The lead administrator should guide efforts to mitigate medical errors and preventable adverse events in order to protect the institution and the physician from the imminent financial losses or practice implications. With respect to the mentioned ethical dilemma, the lead administrator plays the vital role of taking note of these issues related to ethics and risk management and taking the necessary steps to maintain the ethical knowledge and practice of physicians or caregivers within hospital practice (Wati et al., 2023).
