Before you start this assignment, please complete the Research Hierarchy Activity to provide context for the assignment.
Now that you have completed the research hierarchy activity, you can see how each type of research fits in a particular hierarchy. This is important because it provides information about each type of research study; for example, its validity, rigor, soundness, and reliability. With this context in mind, examine the articles provided and practice determining which article goes with each level of the research hierarchy.

Review all the articles in preparation for this assignment. Using this Research Hierarchy Template (Word), you will list one journal article for each of the seven levels of the research hierarchy pyramid (you will not need to use all articles to complete the hierarchy; you will use a total of eight of the articles). Articles will not be used in more than a single hierarchy level.
After you have determined one journal article that corresponds with each of the levels of the hierarchy, provide a one to two sentence statement for each article to explain your rationale for selecting it and assigning it to that hierarchical level. Use the Research Hierarchy document that you submit to this assignment.
What characteristics of the design were present and what helped you get to your decision?
Please refer to the Hierarchy Assignment Rubric for details on how this activity will be graded.

Research Hierarchy
A hierarchy of evidence is assigned to studies depending on their research design, research efficacy, and applicability to patient care. More significant quantities of evidence demonstrate reduced vulnerability to bias. During the research hierarchy activity, eight levels of hierarchy were identified. These levels include:
Level I: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Mabire, C., Dwyer, A., Garnier, A., & Pellet, J. (2018). Meta-analysis of the effectiveness of nursing discharge planning interventions for older inpatients discharged home. Journal of Advanced Nursing, 74(4), 788–799. https://doi.org/10.1111/jan.13475
Mabire et al. conducted a study to assess the efficacy of nursing-based discharge preparation interventions in improving health-related outcomes for senior inpatients who were discharged to their homes. To accomplish this, the author employed a meta-analysis and systematic review to evaluate the efficacy of nursing treatments. A comprehensive search was conducted across 13 databases to discover both published and unpublished publications written in English from 2000 to 2015. The results suggest that the introduction of nursing discharge planning for elderly patients being discharged home results in a prolonged duration of hospitalization. However, it fails to reduce the rate of readmission or improve the quality of life.
Level II: Randomized Controlled Trial (RTC)
Rahimimoghadam, Z., Rahemi, Z., Sadat, Z., & Mirbagher Ajorpaz, N. (2019). Pilates exercises and quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease. Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, 34–40. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ctcp.2018.10.017
This article is categorized as Level II because it was designed as a RCT that included persons with chronic renal disease. These individuals were randomly grouped into either the control or the experimental group. This study examines the impact of Pilates exercises on the overall well-being of individuals, using rigorous methods to establish a cause-and-effect link between the action taken and the resulting outcomes. The study incorporates random allocation of participants, well-defined intervention protocols (adapted classical Pilates routines), and rigorous outcome assessments (Quality of Life Short Form questionnaire). Statistical techniques, such as Chi-square and t-tests, were utilized to assess significant group variations, guaranteeing internal validity.
Level III: Quasi Experiment Study
VonStein, M., Buchko, B. L., Millen, C., Lampo, D., Bell, T., & Woods, A. B. (2019). Effect of a Scheduled Nurse Intervention on Thirst and Dry Mouth in Intensive Care Patients. American Journal of Critical Care, 28(1), 41–46. https://doi.org/10.4037/ajcc2019400
VonStein et al. conducted a study to assess the efficacy of a regular regimen of ice water oral swabs and lip moisturizer containing menthol, as compared to sporadic use, in allev...
