Reducing Obesity Among Black Adolescent Females
Introduction
I will discuss about the topic of obesity among young black females. The purpose of the study is because there is alarming statistics from the (Healthy People 2030, 2020) which reveal that four out of five black American women are obese (Healthy People 2030, 2020). Notably, obesity rates among Americans have reached unprecedented levels, largely attributed to increased food portions and sedentary lifestyles. Many Americans are leading busy lives and hence, they rely on takeout and fast food. This trend is worrying given that stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease are leading causes of mortality in the country, with obesity serving as a primary risk factor for these ailments (Healthy People 2030, 2020).
Relating Topic to Target Population
According to Healthy People 2020 Objectives, there has been small reduction in the number of obese people in America since 2005. Black Americans account for about 56.1% of these obesity rates, while white American females only account for 30%(Lincoln, 2019). Thus, obesity in adolescents was one of the seven that was not met, out of the 26 total. There is need to lower the obesity rate among young black females to improve this particular goal status. The increase obesity rates among young black females can be attributed to a poor diet, consuming less fruits and vegetables than is advised, and additionally, 82% of amongst them do not exercise(Lincoln, 2019). Same investigation revealed that 56.9% of non-Hispanic black young females are obese (Lincoln, 2019). The author contends that black adult females' physical and mental activity is a result of the social environments in which they are born, raise, and work.

The PCCS-WLM Plan was administered by (CHWs), community health workers in primary care clinics. It took six months in (HSWL) Health-Smart Weight Loss Program for obese Black women patients (Tucker et al., 2022). The second program evaluated the relative efficacy of the two programs. Equated to non-Hispanic White women (42%), and Hispanic women (50%) Black women (56.6%) have a greater prevalence of obesity(Lincoln, 2019). Interestingly, initial weight loss from obesity-reducing therapies is usually not maintained. The HSWL Program included 683 obese black women patients from 20 community clinics unsystematically allotted to one of two plans(Tucker et al., 2022). Subjects in the HSWL Program lost a considerable amount of weight (like 2.7 pounds, 1.22 kg, p<.01, −1.1%)(Lincoln, 2019). Both the SB-WLM Plan subjects and the PCCS-WLM Plan subjects kept their weight reduction going, but at eighteen months, the PCCS-WLM Pl...
